CB Tutoring is entering an exciting new chapter as it prepares to expand its services to include a private exam centre for students across Cornwall. In line with this development, CB Tutoring will rebrand as CB Tutoring and Exams, reflecting its growing commitment to both academic support and accessible examination opportunities.

This decision follows extensive planning and conversations about the most effective way to bring an exam centre to life in Cornwall. Initially, the exam centre was envisioned under a separate name, Kowel Gwenen: The Hive CIC, to be run through a Community Interest Company (CIC). However, due to funding constraints and structural limitations, it became clear that this approach would not allow for exam delivery by Summer 2026, as originally hoped.
A New Path Forward
By integrating the exam centre directly into CB Tutoring, the team can move forward with greater certainty and create a robust, supportive environment for private candidates and home-educated students needing access to formal qualifications.
“While we had high hopes for Kowel Gwenen: The Hive CIC as a standalone initiative, our priority has always been to serve the needs of learners in Cornwall,” said Chrissi Berry. “Bringing the exam centre under CB Tutoring means we can make faster progress and be ready to welcome candidates from Summer 2026.”
Continued Community Support Through Kowel Gwenen
Although the exam centre will no longer operate under the CIC model, it is hoped that Kowel Gwenen will remain active and launch a bursary scheme to support private candidates who may struggle with the cost of exams helping to reduce barriers and ensure that all learners have a fair chance to succeed.
Further details about the bursary, including how to apply, will be announced at a later date.
What This Means for Families
Families currently connected with CB Tutoring may begin to notice signage and branding changes at the centre over the summer. These changes are part of a broader transformation to reflect the expanded role of the organisation.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the families and supporters who have been part of this journey so far,” said Chrissi. “This change allows us to stay true to our mission of creating supportive, inclusive learning and exam environments for students across Cornwall.”
We'll be updating the website over the next few weeks with the details about upcoming exam offerings.
